Nothing faster than a speeding Bullet
29 August 2011
The Heritage paddock resembled an Aston Martin Owners Club meeting with many V8's and 6 cylinder light wieghts out to challenge a Mustang, Corvette, MGV8, Cobra, Lotus Sunbeam and others.
Qualifying showed that these iconic cars had the pace, Rikki Canns Gulf car being the fastest but they would find the pace of the hihgly modified Sunbeam Lotus of Ronchetti and Westwood who took pole and John Wilson MGBV8 hard to match.
The first half of race one we saw Ronchetti working hard to keep John Wilson behind with each exchanging fastest lap and Cheng Lim in his Cobra that had started from the back after missing qualifying with a broken push rod working through the field to third. After the driver changes the order remained the same until John Wilsons car broke an oil pipe and retiered moving John Dickson upto second although some 40 seconds behind and Carrera cup racer John Taylor in third which is how the race finished.
In race two it was John Wilsons turn to start at the back although a determined drive saw him very quickly resume battle close behind Ronchetti once more. Cheng Lim was struggling with the Cobra over steering even more than usual and fell through the order before pulling off with a cracked rear upright. Cristian Dick on the other hand was flying in the FIA Big Block Corvette Stingray of Neil Merry with a pace close to the leaders however the brakes said, 'enough!' at the driver change and their race was over.
The race for the lead was effectively over when an over eager Wilson was penalised with a drive through penalty for speeding which meant he would have to settle for second behind Ronchetti and Westwood in the Lotus Sunbeam. John Taylor took his second podium of the weekend with third and Rikki Cann a well deserved fourth.
