McCarthy goes back to his roots at Thruxton

The hugely experienced Roy McCarthy returned to his racing roots when he raced an MGA in the Charterhouse Heritage GT Car Challenge at Thruxton (28/29 June).

The Banstead man entered his familiar MGB GTV8 for the Heritage GT races as usual, but with that in need of refreshing following a busy time at the previous weekend’s MG meeting at Silverstone, McCarthy turned to a recently acquired ex-Mark Ellis MGA.

McCarthy, who won his class in the 'for sale' car on Saturday, began racing in 1970 in just such a car.
