Imported as a new car to Ireland in 1973, for a Dublin Hairdresser called ‘Laurence’ (It was bright red then!!!) It passed through a number of owners till 1996 when I bought it as a tatty rally car. Except for lowering the ride height, I raced it ‘as was’ for a couple of seasons as well as driving it to and from races until the engine expired. The plan was a new engine and a quick tidy up, but several other road and race cars got in the way. Although a lot of work had been completed to turn it into a fast road and sometimes race car, it sat in the back of the garage for years until August 2006 when I mentioned it to Steve Hall of TR Enterprises who had just completed the rebuild of my brother’s race TR6 (no. 75 in the HGTCC). Steve, although a master of ‘Anything TR’ had some experience of TR engined Morgans and lots of know-how with his own TR8 rally cars, so it was the right decision wasn’t it? Out of what looked like a ‘Marriage made in Hell’, a few months of bad language from the workshop in Nottingham and an hours track testing the TR Enterprises team pulled it off! We are on the grid at SPA. What better place for an ageing driver in a car he’s not driven for ten years to put ‘Mog’ back on the track? It sounded like a good idea a few weeks ago…….Spa update: Good Thursday testing, 3 laps of qualifying then bang! No clutch…. Look forward to 2008 and ‘order’ to TR Enterprises, Dear Steve please fit an unbreakable clutch.
